Farmhouse
Bluebirds nesting over the door,
Leaves scattered about on the floor.
Broken window panes let in the air,
Still, I felt so welcome there!
Images of children, playing all day,
Swinging and taking rides on the hay.
Dogs and chickens running around,
Everyone smiling, never a frown.
Times were hard in days gone by,
They had no reason to question why.
They didn't miss the things we have now,
I would go back in time, if I knew how.
Hot chocolate still cooked in a pan,
A woman took comfort in pleasing one man.
Children loved candy made with honey,
They had no need for extra money.
School clothes ordered by catalog yearly,
Were treated as jewels and loved dearly.
Two pairs of shoes, a Sunday dress,
Instead of closet that flows with a mess.
The old wooden house was hard to heat,
But the warmth inside, couldn't be beat.
I would go back there, right now, today,
I miss the life of yesterday!
